Quick Tips for Healthier Eating
Posted on August 5, 2008
Some of my random thoughts on better eating habits. These are some that have worked for me:
1. Keep healthy snacks handy. If I have healthy snacks around, I am more likely to eat them instead of something else. I love fruits, vegetables, healthy granola bars, etc.
2. I love a good, homemade fruit smoothie. Sometimes it is hard for me to remember to eat enough fruit throughout the day, so a smoothie is a way for me to get a lot all in one shot. It also refreshes my body after a long bike ride or run, tastes great, and gives me some great nutrients I need.
3. Keep a food journal. I do better when I am writing down what is going into my body. At the end of the day or week, I can see what I need to improve.
4. Plan. Plan at the beginning of the week (or before you go grocery shopping) what you are going to eat throughout the week. You can get really detailed or just have a general plan. Obviously you can make changes to the plan depending on what you feel like eating, but already having the healthy food definitely helps.
5. Slow down. This one is hard for me sometimes – I love good food and I just naturally eat fast. By eating slower, our bodies can tell us (and we can realize) that we are full. This will help us to not overeat.
6. Be smart. We all have a basic idea of what is good for us, and what is not so good. Make wise choices, and don’t try and convince yourself that something “isn’t that bad” when you know it is.
Happy (healthy) eating!
