Kids and Healthy Eating

Posted on September 19, 2008

I’m still reading Marion Nestle’s What To Eat and I am really enjoying it. Here’s a part I found interesting:

It’s amazing the way foods are marketed to kids these days. Special cereals, crackers, and “fun” food line the shelves. It’s easy to think that kids need these “kid foods.”

According to Nestle, the Dietary Guidelines and other dietary recommendations apply to everyone over the age of 2. When kids can chew and safely swallow foods, they should be eating the same healthy foods that everyone else in the family is (or should) be eating.

Just because kids are kids doesn’t mean they can’t eat healthy “adult” food.

Great post. I would argue healthy eating for children is the most important. No better way for this than the parents to eat healthy. The kids can follow example.
