Kids Learn Good Nutrition From Parents
Posted on November 4, 2008
A study published in the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine found that children as young as 2-years-old mimic their parents’ food choices.
Some excerpts from a news article describing the study:
“The data suggest that children begin to assimilate and mimic their parents’ food choices at a very young age, even before they are able to fully appreciate the implications of these choices.”
“This study suggests that preschool children are already forming food preferences and are attentive to food choices made by their parents.”
Bottom Line: Want your kids to make healthy food choices? Lead by example.

My 4-year old daughter got tons of candy for Halloween. My wife told her this: pick 5 of them, and you may eat them any time you wish, you don’t have to ask for permission. Throw the rest away.
I always thought this was asking much for a little kid, but she went and did just as she was told, without hesitation.
I felt very proud.

@Ari Koinuma Thanks for sharing!
Yes, yes, yes! It’s so true! My 5 yr old even asks me if something has HFCS in it now.

@cathy Nice. Thanks for the comment! The little ones definitely notice what parents do.
A must for responsible parents, teach by example.

I love reading articles on your website. That’s right. Parents should be a role models to the kids.
