Make Time for Exercise
Posted on November 20, 2008
The incoming First Couple makes time to get exercise. We all should do the same.
President-elect Obama likes to start his day off with a workout, and did so, even during the busy times on the campaign trail. His wife, Michelle, has also been known to start her day off with an early workout.
Regardless of whether or not you agree with Obama’s politics, it’s good to see a prominent politician who actively makes fitness a priority in his life. If one of the busiest people in the world can find time to get some exercise in, I don’t think it’s a stretch to think we can squeeze in 30-60 minutes on most days of the week.
One thing I have found to help with making sure I get my workouts in is planning. Set a specific time and stick to it. Whether it’s early, at lunch, in the evening, it doesn’t matter. Just do it.
Obama also loves to play basketball. Another good example of doing something you love to do. He likes hoops, so he plays hoops. What do you like to do for exercise? Don’t know what you like best yet? Try everything!
Bottom Line: There is time for exercise.

I gotta admitObama’s day is probably more packed than mine, and he finds time. So does our current president. There are no good excuses, just priorities.

@James Hubbard, M.D., M.P.H. Yeah. Prioritizing is tough. Good point about our current president as well. I think a lot of our presidents try/tried to stay active, but it seems with the Obama’s it is more publicized.
Good points, I’ve been hit or miss recently. And, I think it’s exactly as you’ve described - I haven’t planned them in - and when they’re not planned, they don’t happen! Thanks for the friendly push Blake!

@Lance No problem. Plan, and stick to it!
“Bottom Line: There is time for exercise.” Right on my friend! Nice post!
@Mark Yup. There is definitely time.
Back in the day when I worked in a corporate environment, I knew that if I needed some info from the engineering department, I would always go to Rick.
Rick was, without a doubt, the busiest guy in the whole dept. And yet, he always managed to get me an answer faster than anyone else (and always right).
Today, I see this with my personal training clients.
The ones whose lives are the busiest are the ones that never miss a session and work the hardest during those sessions. The same goes for nutrition.
It’s not surprising that the “President Elect” finds time to squeeze a workout into his day.
He knows that it is an investment in himself.
Hopefully, this attitude will be adopted by all Americans.
Another great post Blake
