Bench the Soda
Posted on December 15, 2008
This afternoon I found an article at Prevention about the truth behind popular health rumors. One of the rumors was that cola soft-drinks can damage kidneys. Here’s what was said about that:
“Despite their global popularity, there’s nothing remotely healthy about cola beverages: Drinking 16 ounces or more daily (whether diet or regular) doubles your risk of chronic kidney disease, according to a recent NIH study of more than 900 people. The researchers already knew that consuming any type of soft drink –the average American adult guzzles 59 gallons’ worth per year– is associated with several risk factors for kidney disease (hypertension, diabetes, and kidney stones), but the spike in the cola category was remarkable.”
Bottom line? Bench the cola and other soft drinks, diet-soda or not. They don’t do anything good for you.
Here’s the link to the article again. It’s got some good info. As an added bonus, here’s what I wrote some time ago about soda.
Spread the health love by passing this on to those you love.
