Eating Out the Right Way

The above quote is from a post I read this morning called Foods to Avoid at Popular Chain Restaurants.  The article shares good facts about fast food, and tips to keep yourself from over-doing it when you go out to eat. 

Some tips include:

– Eat half of what you order.  Save the rest for a later meal.

– Drink water instead of soda or fruit drinks.

– Order veggies as your side dish. 

The article also shares some good, and not-so-good choices when eating out at certain restaurants.  Included are some menu items from Olive Garden, PF Changs, Starbucks, TGI Friday’s, and Red Lobster.

It’s interesting to see the nutrition facts of some of the worst items on their menus.  I’ve eaten both items on the good side, and not-so-healthy side.  Check them out and see how your choices stack up.

Eating out is a part of life these days.  But just because we eat out doesn’t mean we have to forget about trying to eat healthy.  Most places offer healthier fare, even if it’s not perfect.

Talking about eating out makes me think about nutrition info on menus.  This was quite a topic a few months ago, but there is still some talk about it.  Do you think it’s a good idea?  Why or why not?

    Blake,
    I have to bring something from home. I can’t be trusted to just eat 1/2 the serving.

    I like nutrition info on menus. It can be eye opening. I think it should be voluntary for the restaurants however.

    Nutrition info on menu’s is good, but I think people would generally ignore and learn to turn a blind eye to the numbers and percentages – just like they do on packaged foods. I think in this day and age of food allergies it would be more beneficial to list the exact ingredients. That way people can see if a specific allergen is present along with HFC, partially hydrogenated oils, etc
