Get Out of Bed

Posted on January 7, 2009

I really didn’t want to get up this morning.  I was so cozy in my warm bed.  I didn’t want to fight the icy roads and fog (see below) to get to the stationary bike and treadmill (I hate winter) for this morning’s workout.

I was already a little sore from yesterday’s lifting, and if I missed today, it may not have been the worst thing in the world.  Well, after 4 “T-Mobile Jingles” and 3 snooze-button pushes, I got up.

I won my battle this morning.

Why do I share this?  Because I’m proud of myself.  The easy way would have been to stay in bed.  Believe me, I wanted to.  But what about my goals I want to accomplish this year?  I can’t reach my goals if I stay in bed.  If I stay in today, it will be easier to stay in tomorrow.

Want to reach your goals this year?  Then get out of bed.  Do something.  I’m not saying that you have to wake up at 5:30 to do it, but you have to do something.  Your goals, in order to be reached – health/fitness related or not– require action.

Once I got moving this morning, I was fine.  Now, as I write this, I feel great.  I’m so glad I got out of bed.  It wasn’t necessarily about the bike ride/run this morning.  It was about winning the battle.

Win yours.  Make it happen captain.

You should be commended. No one, but you, would know if you did not get out of bed, but you are the one that benefits, also.
    Thanks

Good job, Blake! I dragged my tired, sore body to the gym this morning too. Sometimes you really do just have to fight through it – and then pat yourself on the back!

I think that what you did–going when it’s really, really, really tempting to skip–is one of the most powerful things you can do to stay fit for life. Even more than the exercise itself, it’s the habit building and learning deep down that you’ll always be glad once you’re out there.

    Very inspirational post!

Yay – a fellow winter hater! :) I’m the same way – only sometimes I DON’T get out of bed. Good for you!
