A Ridiculous Ticket and My Favorite Fruits and Veggies

Posted on February 18, 2009

So I got a ticket today and I’m pretty annoyed about it.  I had just enjoyed some lunch with the wife and was heading home and I noticed a cop had pulled some one over in front of me.

There was plenty of room on the shoulder where they were and I passed at a reasonable speed (limit was 45 mph on this road).

Next thing I know the cop pulls me over and asks why I didn’t move over to the other lane.  I said I didn’t know I had to.  He said, in a kind of know-it-all tone, well, it’s been the law for about 2 years.

Oh, sorry, Mr. Officer, I guess I missed that memo.

So now I have a nice ticket sticking to the fridge to remind me to appeal the ticket, pay the fine, or go to traffic school.  Any suggestions?

Anyway, sorry about that… had to get that out there.  Now for some relevant stuff.

Here are my top 10 favorite fruits and vegetables.  This list changes all the time, but this is it right now:

1.  Grapes — I love the red kind.  These are always a great snack.

2.  Mushrooms — I used to hate these.  Now I try and slice them up and put them on everything.  My wife gets a little annoyed that I want them every night!

3.  Sweet Potatoes — Sweet potato fries, or oven-roasted are my favorite.

4.  Bananas — straight up or in a smoothie works for me.

5.  Broccoli – Steamed, sometimes raw.

6.  Avocados — In guacamole, need I say more?

7.  Apples — I prefer these just sliced up, or also in a smoothie

8.  Tomatoes — Love these on sandwiches, chopped up and mixed into eggs, or in salsa.

9.  Asparagus — These have to be oven-roasted for sure!

10.  Onions — Love these in eggs, with fajitas, or with any kind of meat.

Well, there ya have it.  That’s how I like these fruits and veggies.  How do you like them?  What’s your top 10?

@Carole Great list; you reminded me of how much I also love cantaloupe and pineapples. See, I knew my list would change fast. Thanks for sharing!

    Blake,

I got a ticket last week too. Mine was for having an expired inspection sticker. I haven’t been pulled over in 30+ years I’ll bet. As for yours fight it and see if they’ll change it for a non moving violation. You want to save on your car insurance. Plea bargain doesn’t always have to be in TV dramas.

As for your fruits and veggies, I’d put Brussels sprouts and cauliflower with your list.

@Tom Rooney Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I for sure need to save on the insurance! Thanks for the input on the fruits and veggies. I do like brussel sprouts on sandwiches.

It’s hard to pick a top ten, but I think these are mine (not in order): green pepper, strawberries, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, peaches, apples, and cauliflower.

    Sorry about your ticket!

Sorry about the ticket, Blake! It’s the same law here. Lucky for me, I saw a story about it on the TV news, so I knew before I would be busted.

Thanks for your comment on Dr. Hubbard’s site. Just to share this with you, when I’ve talked to my parents about having asthma as a child, they told me I behaved like I didn’t have it, and in my mind, my attitude had a lot to do with my getting past it. Now I look at it as not giving any power to my problem. Many people, though I doubt you are this way, make their “condition” their identity. I strongly recommend against doing this. Hope this is helpful. I probably should do a column on this :-)

@Dr. J Yeah, I still do things as if I didn’t have asthma, I just make sure I’m prepared in case something does happen. Thanks!
