A Refreshing Run

Posted on April 16, 2009

I had a good run tonight.  I left the iPod at home on purpose and enjoyed the spring winter weather all by myself.  The Provo River trail was pretty much deserted because of the cold so I saw maybe 2 or 3 people the whole time I was running.

There was just something nice about running all alone without any music in my ears.  Instead I got to focus on my thoughts, listen to myself breathe, and hear the sound of the river next to the trail.  So refreshing.

I covered 7 miles in 1 hr 3 mins.  Nice and easy.

I don’t think I’ll go without music all the time, but every now and again I’m sure it will be nice.

Exercise and fresh air is a good combo.  Get yourself some.

Way to leave the iPod at home! I rarely listen to music when running because I think it inhibits some of the best aspects of running, one of which is being able to think. Thinking while running seems to always put things into perspective. I like to run at the end of the day to go over the events and prepare myself for what I need to accomplish the next day. Every conflict seems more clear and obvious. Now I just wish I had something to record my thoughts while running.

I know, something to be able to record thoughts would be great during a run! It was really nice withough the music.

I like to spend my time exercising with quiet rather than music- but every so often its nice to bring my iPod along. A little bit of variety is really good!

Sounds like you had a lovely run (even if the weather IS still winterish… sighs)

I have shin splints and haven;t been able to run for a while. I am soooooo jealous of your nice 7 miler! Good for you for mixing it up by not taking the music.

@Sagan Yeah, hoping this crazy Utah weather gets nice soon!

@healthy ashley That stinks about the shin splints. Hopefully you’ll be running again soon!
