Healthy Habits for Kids

Posted on November 30, 2009

Here’s my daughter devouring her veggies.  Looks like she ate most of the peas and greenbeans already. : )  We’re trying to teach her healthy habits early and hopefully she’ll stick with them forever.

What are some things you do with your kids to teach them healthy habits?

If you only show them healthy options, that is all that they will know. Little kids won’t blame you for a terrible childhood if they don’t have fruit snacks, chips and sugary drinks.

That being said, they should still be exposed to a variety of tastes and textures. So share the bowl of ice cream with them and have the Lucky Charms on their birthdays, but teach them moderation. Teach them that if we eat something sugary, we follow it up with something nutritious.

So far, all of this has worked on my two boys. They are like any other kids who like treats and pizza, but they also don’t turn down the broccoli or the oatmeal. It’s all about the exposure to all sorts of foods.

    She is beautiful- truly.

Thanks so much for coming by my blog and commenting. I am trying to blog about everything I eat daily so I have to hold myself accountable. Like right now I wanted some chips so I ate a perfect serving of them instead of just sitting down with the entire bag.

Come back again soon- support helps so much!

    Hi Blake

This is fantastic and she is so cute!

Most parents don’t realize how much feeding kids healthy food from the start, especially fruits and veggies influences their habits later in life.

We often start giving our kids “junk” food and calling it a treat – it is beyond me why – but anyway why not give them an orange or something similar and say they are getting a treat. Kids look to us for their major lessons in life, and we can be amazing role models who set our kids on the right path of a long and healthy life, if we are conscious.
