Fruit and Veggies Matter – Healthy Monday
Posted on May 17, 2010
Each Monday, a simple health tip and challenge will be posted as part of Healthy Monday. Healthy Monday is a public health initiative founded in 2005 in association with Johns Hopkins University, Syracuse University, and Columbia Univerisity.
Their mission includes ending “chronic preventable disease in the U.S. by offering people and organizations a weekly prompt to start and sustain healthy behaviors.”
“Fruits and vegetables are great sources of many vitamins, minerals and other natural substances that may help protect you from chronic diseases.”
The Tip: Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables each day will help your body work like it’s supposed to. Eat a minimum of 5 servings of fruits/veggies daily. Eat more if possible. And don’t count french fries. : )
The Challenge: Today eat at least 5 servings of fruits/veggies. See what it’s like. Suggestions:
- Place fruits in a bowl and make it easily accessible
- Make a smoothie with tons of fruit
- Have a homemade salad for lunch or dinner
It’s simple, and we all know we need fruits/veggies, but how many of us still don’t eat enough of them? Start today.
Have a great Monday.
